EK DEEWANA THA first look: Prateik looks good with Amy Jackson

Director Gautam Menon, best known for his R Madhavan-Dia Mirza-starrer Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, makes a comeback with this AR Rahman musical, a remake of the superhit Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya

The trend of remaking successful South Indian films continues with Prateik’s next, Ek Deewana Tha. This one marks the debut of newbie Amy Jackson Jackson, who has modelled all over Europe. She made her acting debut in Tamil film Madrasapattinam as the female lead, after which she was signed by Gautham Menon for his Hindi remake of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. In the Tamil version of the film, the protagonist is an engineer by qualification, but chooses to be a filmmaker and ends up falling in love with his tenant’s daughter. His love story goes haywire when he finds out that not only is the girl older than him, but their religions don’t allow them to be together. To complicate matters, her parents have already found her the right suitor. Menon’s love stories are quite a rage down South, but he hasn’t been able to make a mark in Bollywood. Though he has Manu Rishi Chadha – who won a Filmfare Award for his dialogues in Dibakar Banerjee’s Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! – on board to act and write the dialogues for his remake, we aren’t totally sure if this Prateik-starrer will change Menon’s fortune in Bollywood overnight. AR Rahman’s music might do the magic, but we will wait for the trailer to be released before we make any hasty judgements
